- Laocai province
Located on the highland - boundary in
the North - West of Vietnam, Next to Ha Giang province in the East, Yen Bai
province in the Sounth, Lai Chau and Son La in West and China in the North.
- Climate of
Laocai is tropical monsoon that characterized of mountainous, Winter is Cold
and dry, Little raining there are snow some time in some places like: Sapa, Y
ty, Summer is hot and rain a lot.
- Laocai
located in the highland with more than 80% mountainous, Slope are about 150 - 250, the altitude average
about 100m – 2800m with sea level, Some places more than 3000m ( Fansipan peak
– 3143m). With rivers are dense thus there are good Eco – environment good for
temperate planting.

Laocai history along with dynasties.
During Hung Vuong dynasty – found the
country Laocai belong to Tan Hung department one of the 15 department of Van
Lang. During Duong dynasty govern Laocai belong to Dan Duong and Chu Quyen
administrative division. During Ly dynasty(Ly Thai Tong- 1037) Laocai belong to
Dang Chau. During Tran dynasty Laocai belong to Thuy Vi, Van Ban, Quy Hoa and
Thien Hung district. Until Le dynasty Laocai belong to Thuy Vi, Van Ban, Quy
Hoa, Tran Hung district and a part of Luc Yen , Tuyen Quang. Nguyen dynasty –
Minh Mang 2(1831) Laocai province was found. Until Minh Mang 19(1838)
administrative reform changed to commune, become administrative canton.
Beginning of 19 century Laocai have

Yen administrative division
On 30/03/1886 French attack Laocai
for colonial. On 29/8/1891 governor – general of Indochina create Decree found
4 force Laocai belong to number 4. Later Laocai was found with 2 administrative
divisions Thuy Vi and Bao Thang. On 01/01/1976 3 provinces Laocai, Yen Bai,
Nghia Lo was combined become Hoang Lien Son Province. On 01/10/1991 Laocai was
separated with 10 district and 1 city. On 2004 Than Uyen merged to Lai Chau
province, Cam Duong and Laocai combined become Laocai city then Laocai have 1
city and 8 district: Sapa, Bao Thang, Van Ban, Bao Yen, Bac Ha, Si Ma Cai, Bat
Xat, Muong Khuong.
- Population
and hill tribe:
Population in Laocai: 613.075 people belong to 13
minorities with 25 different hill tribe. There are 70% hill tribe of
population, most of people working in agriculture thus a bit difficult to
improve local economy.
- Potentiality
of tourism:
With priorities of nature and speciality of
hilltribe’ tradition, culture this is the strength for Laocai to improve
tourism. Also Laocai have some favorite for tourist to come and do the tour
like: Sightseeing, Community, Adventure, …
